Coastal Surgery Center is a specialized ambulatory surgery center providing outpatient pain management procedures. Our team is committed to providing safe, efficient, high-quality patient care in a supportive outpatient environment.
We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Charge Registered Nurse to provide clinical leadership and support the day-to-day operations of the surgery center. This is a hands-on leadership position ideal for an RN with ambulatory surgery experience who enjoys working collaboratively with physicians and staff while helping maintain an organized, efficient, and compliant clinical environment.
Schedule:
This position requires three (3) days per week. Tuesday and Friday availability is required. The third day may be a consistent scheduled day or may rotate based on facility needs and candidate availability.
Position Summary:
The Charge RN provides day-to-day clinical leadership and operational oversight of the surgery center. This position works closely with the Client Services Specialist RN, Practice Manager, and Medical Director to ensure safe patient care, appropriate staffing, efficient procedural flow, and compliance with facility policies and regulatory requirements. The Charge RN serves as a clinical resource and leader for nursing staff and should be comfortable working throughout the center, including but not limited to Pre-Op, Operating Room, and PACU, as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision of nursing and clinical staff.
- Coordinate daily staffing assignments and maintain appropriate clinical coverage.
- Oversee daily patient and procedural flow to support safe and efficient operations.
- Coordinate staff breaks and lunches while maintaining appropriate patient coverage.
- Serve as a clinical resource for staff and assist with troubleshooting patient care, staffing, equipment, and workflow concerns.
- Provide direct patient care in Pre-Op, OR, and PACU when needed.
- Work collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and facility leadership.
- Support orientation, training, education, and ongoing development of clinical staff.
- Assist with staff competencies and performance evaluations.
- Promote adherence to accepted standards of nursing practice, infection prevention, medication safety, and environmental safety.
- Ensure nursing documentation meets facility, state, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate as a member of the QAPI Committee and assist with the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in regulatory readiness, compliance activities, audits, and corrective action initiatives as needed.
- Assist with oversight of medication utilization, controlled substance accountability, and medication management practices.
- Assist with identifying clinical supply and equipment needs and collaborate with the appropriate team members regarding procurement.
- Complete and ensure appropriate follow-up of incident reports and unusual occurrences in accordance with facility policy.
- Promote effective communication between staff, physicians, patients, and facility leadership.
- Support fiscally responsible staffing, supply, and operational decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the safe and efficient operation of the surgery center.
Qualifications:
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license -Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications -Ambulatory surgery center, perioperative, Pre-Op/PACU, or OR experience preferred
- Previous Charge RN, clinical leadership, or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to provide clinical leadership while maintaining a collaborative, team-oriented approach
- Working knowledge of ambulatory surgery standards, infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory compliance preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is an experienced ASC or perioperative RN who is confident leading a clinical team, comfortable addressing day-to-day operational challenges, and willing to step into patient care when needed.
