Charge Nurse - Pre-Operative/PACU (Full Time / Varied)

The Pre-Operative/PACU RN is directly responsible for patient care during the pre-operative and recovery periods and indirectly responsible through coordination and information sharing with the Operating Room and Endoscopy staff during that period when the patient is having their procedure. The RN serves as a role model and mentor in the development of clinical skills, communication skills, problem-solving, critical thinking and team work. The RN recommends changes in systems and processes to remove barriers in providing efficient, cost effective care.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Licensure

Must have a valid current license to practice nursing in the State of California. A Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.

Experience

Significant experience working in a PACU supporting multi-specialties, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center is required. This level of experience is typically achieved in approximately three years.

Knowledge

Demonstrated knowledge and interpersonal skills necessary to tactfully interact with diverse health professionals, physicians and patients. Extensive knowledge of recommended Peri-Anesthesia standards / practices and infection control. Current knowledge regarding equipment utilized in the Pre-Op and PACU.

Special Skills/Equipment

Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communications, functional supervision/ delegation and human relations is required. Must be a flexible, creative individual who is open to change along with the ability to handle multiple priorities. Requires the ability to operate and trouble-shoot PACU equipment. ACLS/PALS required. Adult training skills are preferred.
