CASA Executive Director Beth LaBouyer Announces Retirement
Dear CASA Members,
It is with mixed emotions that we share the news of Beth LaBouyer’s upcoming retirement as Executive Director of the California Ambulatory Surgery Association. After 20 years of dedicated leadership at CASA and decades of commitment to the ASC industry overall, Beth has informed the Board of Directors of her intention to retire, effective Fall 2025.
Beth has been a pillar of CASA and the ASC community, guiding the association through incredible growth and transformation. Her journey with CASA began long before her role as Executive Director in 2004—she was first a CASA Board Member and volunteer, deeply engaged in the mission of supporting ASCs. Prior to CASA, she led a multi-specialty ASC in Northern California and started her career in the inpatient surgical environment, working as an RN circulator and scrub tech at a trauma hospital.
Reflecting on her time with CASA, Beth shared: "When I was first introduced to CASA, they embraced me as a new ASC administrator and became my lifeline. My goal as Executive Director has always been to provide that same level of support to our CASA members. I am incredibly proud of the impact we have made together, grateful for the close collaboration with board members and staff, and confident that CASA is well-positioned for the future."
Under Beth’s leadership, CASA has:
- Increased membership to represent the range of ASC facilities across the state, solidifying CASA as a premier resource and advocate for California ASCs.
- Amplified ASC advocacy efforts in Sacramento, strengthening relationships with key policymakers and helping guide policy analysis and decisions that impact the ASC industry.
- Developed a strong partnership with the California Department of Public Health, increasing engagement and coordination on regulatory issues.
- Launched California-specific benchmarking and salary surveys, providing essential industry data.
- Expanded educational opportunities, providing infection prevention training and a range of tools and resources to support high-quality ASC administration.
“Through her strategic leadership and tireless dedication, Beth has elevated CASA’s presence at both the state and national levels,” said Oren Shill, President of the CASA Board of Directors. “Her ability to bring people together, advocate for ASCs, and build meaningful resources has positively impacted CASA and the ASC industry as a whole. Her leadership and influence will be deeply missed.”
To ensure a smooth transition, the CASA Board of Directors has established a Transition Committee, with the goal of identifying and hiring Beth’s successor by Fall 2025. If you know of a strong candidate for the position, please contact positions@casurgery.org.
